So in terms of trains, the city possesses 10 separate train companies: JR (Japan Rail), Eidan, Toei, Keio, Odakyu, Keikyu, Seibu, Tokyu, and all different train companies.
Japan Rail is, doubtlessly, the biggest and the most widely used one, being convenient to move to all central points, including Shinjuku, Shibuya, Shinagawa, Shimbashi, Tokyo, Kanda, and Ikebukuro.
Tickets fares start from 130yen for Japan Rail. And what is indispensable to know is that the tickets can be used for one company only.
Japan Railway (JR) has its own rechargeable card system, called Suika. The Suika card can be recharged for the desired amount of money at the ticket machine. Its great advantage is that it should not be passed through the ticket gates, but only held above it. It was made in order to facility and hasten the procedure of entering the train, as there are a lot of passengers all the time.
There are commuter tickets as well, which are of great advantage if you travel every day between two distinct stations. However, they are quite expensive ones, but really convenient in usage.
